CAKE DEBUT: Borderland by Rumi Hara
Rumi is an illustrator living in Savannah, GA. Her new book Borderland combines watercolor illustrations, comics, and photographs to tell a story of the Sea Islands along the Georgia coast. Emphasizing the characteristics of the region as an in-between space of Africa and America, water and land, reality and imagination, the story develops around the themes of memory and landscape. This limited edition (edition of 100) is printed on Japanese paper and hand-bound using hemp cord!
Rumi is an illustrator and translator born in Kyoto, Japan. Attracted by the subtropical warmth and palm trees, she spent the last two years studying illustration in Savannah, GA. Her comics and watercolor illustrations sometimes feature friendly monsters and monstrous children. They have been published in America and Japan, and recognized by American Illustration and the Society of Illustrators. She loves bright colors and books and cornbread.
