CAKE 2017 Special Guest Announcement: Gary Panter!
CAKE is excited to announce our next special guest for 2017: Gary Panter!Gary Panter is an illustrator, painter, designer, and part-time musician who has been a fixture of the art-comics scene for decades. Panter has published his work in various magazines and newspapers, including RAW, Time, and Rolling Stone. His most famous works include Jimbo, Adventures in Paradise and Facetasm, which was created together with Charles Burns, and the graphic novel Cola Madness. In the early 1990s, he drew seven issues of a Jimbo comic book through Matt Groening's Zongo Comics label, and later created two more graphic novels starring his character, Jimbo in Purgatory and Jimbo's Inferno. Gary has won numerous awards, including three Emmy Awards for his production design on Pee-wee's Playhouse, as well as the 2000 Chrysler Award for Design Excellence. His latest book, Songy of Paradise, will be published by Fantagraphics in April 2017. Featuring comics for sale, workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, and more, CAKE is dedicated to fostering community and dialogue among independent artists, small presses, publishers, and readers. The sixth annual CAKE will take place Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Center on Halsted, 3656 North Halsted Avenue in Chicago.
